11 APRIL — 16 APRIL
DANCE DOUBLE BILL
Two new works by choreographers Jenni Large and Chloe Leong
INNERMOST by Chloe Leong
INNERMOST is drawn from the inside. From what belongs to the quietness of our personal spaces, the inner part of our interiors, our internal landscapes.
‘Deeper. Look closely.’
INNERMOST is a constantly renewed interaction with her eyes, his eyes, your eyes. Of walls, of flesh, of sensation, concealed and hard to reveal. Desire and denial play in a game of push and pull. Inside, there they are, there you are.
‘Light, heavy, essential, trivial… It’s there, do you see it now? Inside and beyond, contained and infinite.’
Phantom Femme Fatale by Jenni Large
‘Phantom Femme Fatale’ is the love-child and solo iteration of recent works; ‘Wet Hard’, ’S U C K E R’ and ‘Body Body Commodity’. Movement, costume and sound from these previous works have been remixed in a reclamation of forms and characterisations associated with femininity.
She is hard-edged and vampiric. Not to be dismissed as a sexist figure of male fantasy, rather a subversive character who transgresses female subjugation with assassin-like stoicism.
Strategically exploiting her physical prowess, she defiantly leans into stigmatised displays of femininity as a source self-actualisation. Working to gain control of her own image, ‘Phantom Femme Fatale’ invites us to consider the complex power dynamics between voyeur and performer.
