OLD FITZ 2023 SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN
It’s that time again. We are throwing our doors, windows, cupboards, arms, cutlery drawers and (most importantly) inboxes open to receive your submissions for 2023 at the Old Fitz.
Following the success of our multidisciplinary program packed with theatre, opera, contemporary dance and technological fever dreams, we continue to invite all genres of live performance to apply. If you want to present it on a stage with an IRL audience, send it our way!
WHO?
Early-career artists, experienced makers, actors, writers, dancers, designers, directors, performance artists, musicians, comedians, burlesque and cabaret artists, poets, slashies - there is no limitation for who should apply. We encourage EOIs from practitioners who identify across underrepresented pockets of our vibrant communities of gender, race, sexuality, and artists with disability.
WHAT?
Live Performance, in all forms and all definitions.
Don’t feel bound by any particular performance genre style or form. The Old Fitz is a unique hub of daring and high quality live performance that has been home to shows from the intimate to the epic, and we want to know why your idea will thrive here specifically. From classic plays, devised work, live music, new Australian writing, opera, comedy, dance, and more - come at us with your playful, bold and daring perspectives and dreams.
HOW?
PART 1 - A two minute video submission (max)
We want to know what message or mission is at the heart of your idea, why you think it would work at the Old Fitz, how you’d like to execute it (any potential design concepts, creative teams, etc) and most importantly we want to know about YOU. Have fun, but don’t stress on the tech - what you have to say truly is the most important thing to us.
PART 2 - Answer the following
To help us get a greater understanding of you and the proposed work, please answer the following questions to the best of your ability in the body of your email submission .
1. Does your work currently have a producer or producing company attached? If so, who? (This year we are looking for all works to have a producer attached BUT don’t let this stop you submitting if you’re still finding a producer, we know how tricky it is to lock people in at the moment so far in advance. Let us know that you’re still working on it)
2. What other works have you presented? (A brief dot point list is fine!)
3. Do you have any links to past works that can help give us a deeper understanding of your practice? If so, please provide some.
4. Has this production been presented previously. If so, where/when?
5. Does your production currently have any confirmed team members?
6. What is the current estimated run time for the work? (this can be very approximate if it is a new work)
7. If the work you are pitching has a script, do you know the current rights status?
8. Please nominate your available time blocks below (if you are currently available for all time blocks please select ALL available timeblocks):
January - March
April - May
June - August
September - October
November - December
9. Why does this work suit the Old Fitz? Why should it happen in this space and not in another theatre or performance space?
